A new month means new Android security updates for Google's Pixel phones.
Google today released the July 2019 Android security updates, and Pixel devices should begin receiving the updates over the air today. The update is available for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL. As usual, Google is also offering factory images and OTA images for these new Pixel updates if you'd prefer to load them that way.
Also posted today is the Android Security Bulletin, which details the vulnerabilities that've been patched with this month's security update. The 2019-07-01 security patch level addresses vulnerabilities related to the framework, library, media framework, and system. The 2019-07-05 security patch level adds fixes for vulnerabilities related to Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed source components.
There are some functional patches for Pixel phones included in the July 2019 update as well. These include improved "Ok Google" and music detection for the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL as well as a fix for an issue that caused Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones to get stuck during boot.
Google says that the July 2019 update also fixes an issue for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL that causes them to get stuck in EDL mode with a blank screen. The Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL are also getting improved Titan M module performance with the July 2019 update.
Finally, the July 2019 update improves Unicode Japanese language support on the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.
