We learned earlier this year that the YouTube Gaming app would but shut down in March, but that month came and went and the app is still running. Now Google has confirmed a new shutdown date for its gaming-focused app.
The standalone YouTube Gaming app will shut down on May 30th (via Android Police). Google has updated its support pages with the new date, and if you launch the YouTube Gaming app, you'll be greeted with a screen linking you to the new shutdown date.
YouTube has said that it was retiring the YouTube Gaming app because the dedicated YouTube app's "reach is far bigger". Over the past several months, many of YouTube Gaming's features have been migrated to the main YouTube app, and YouTube says people looking specifically for gaming content should check out the new Gaming homepage on YouTube.
The dedicated YouTube Gaming app originally launched on Android and iOS in late 2015, offering features like Let's Play and eSports categories, Game Pages, Channel Memberships, and a new live streaming platform based on the gaming users' feedback. YouTube has said that it's able to reach more users with the main YouTube app, though, and so it's migrated YouTube Gaming features into the YouTube app and given games their own gaming-focused homepage.
