This week we got some good news about the Pixel 3, which is that models sold by Verizon will no longer be sold with a SIM lock (at least for now), but there's also some not-so-good Pixel news that's emerged.
Some Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners are reporting that the Google Camera app occasionally doesn't save a photo after it's been taken. Folks on Twitter, Reddit, and Google's support forums say that the problem affects them, and there are owners of the Pixel and Pixel 2 phones that say they're affected, too. Interestingly, some folks with the Galaxy S9, Moto Z2, and Nexus 5X say that the problem also appears for them when they use the Google Camera app.
The problem seems to occur when you take a photo with the Google Camera app and then switch to another app or lock the phone shortly after. The image may appear as a thumbnail in the gallery circle, but it'll disappear if you tap on it.
Unfortunately, Google hasn't commented on the problem yet, so it's unclear exactly what's causing it. Some have suggested that you can fix the problem by leaving your Google Camera app open until the HDR processing completes after you take a photo or disabling HDR altogether.
While the issue doesn't appear to be affecting everyone, and those that it does affect don't see the issue every single time they take a photo, this is still a pretty serious issue. Lots of folks use their smartphone as their sole camera, and so it's important that the phone can save the photos that the user takes. Here's to hoping that Google can figure out what's going on and get a fix out soon.
