When the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier launched in 2016, they came equipped with Samsung's S Voice feature. As we recently learned, though, S Voice is getting the axe, so Samsung's watches are being updated with a different digital assistant.
Verizon has announced a new software update for the Gear S3 Classic and Frontier that brings Bixby, Samsung's voice assistant that's come preloaded on more recent Galaxy phones and watches (via Droid-Life). Bixby can do things like start a workout with a specific goal, send texts for you, play music, check the weather, and more.
This update also brings a new list view for your apps, the option to keep your screen on during workouts, the ability to create laps when working out, and the ability to check the battery level of your connected earbuds from the watch's Quick Panel. Earbuds that support this feature include the latest Galaxy Buds and the Icon X.
Finally, this update allows the Gear S3 Classic and Frontier to show their battery level on their always-on display as they charge.
