YouTube Music is Google's focus for music streaming now, and so this week Google is launching a transfer tool to help Google Play Music subscribers move before their service is shut down later this year.
The YouTube Music app will now let Google Play Music users transfer their music libraries over to YouTube Music. This includes uploads, purchases, added songs and albums, personal and subscribed playlists, likes and dislikes, curated stations, and personal taste preferences.
To begin the transfer process, just get the YouTube Music app for iOS or Android and click on the transfer button. Your updated recommendations will appear immediately and you'll get an email and a notification when your music library has been transferred over.
If you've got podcasts to transfer, too, go to this webpage and you can move your podcast subscriptions and episodes to the Google Podcasts app with one click.
If you're an existing Google Play Music subscriber, you'll be automatically given the equivalent tier of YouTube Music subscription based on the level of benefits of your current sub at the same price. YouTube Music Premium is available for $9.99 per month and includes ad-free listening, downloads, and background listening. For $11.99 per month, you can extend those benefits to YouTube as well.
Google Play Music will be shut down later this year.
