Today was a big day for ZTE at CES 2016, with the manufacturer making a couple of major announcements and introducing a couple of new phones.
First up, the ZTE Z-Community is a new forum that’ll let its members “help shape the future of ZTE mobile devices and services.” ZTE is getting started on the first project right away, taking suggestions for a new mobile device codenamed Project CSX that’ll debut in 2017.
This news is big because while device makers sometimes field suggestions from consumers about what smartphone features are important to them, ZTE’s new project will task Z-Community members with totally creating the new phone. While ZTE probably won’t make some phone with 16GB of RAM and a 10000mAh battery, the company could very well craft a Project CSX phone based on the reasonable input from the community, and so it’ll be interesting to see what Project CSX turns out to be.
ZTE today also updated its Axon Passport program. Axon Passport 2.0 includes unlimited out-of-warranty repairs as well as a wide range of support that includes assistance with device upgrades and replacements, shipping, and setup.
Finally, ZTE today introduced two new Android phones. The ZTE Avid Plus will launch at T-Mobile on January 20 (and MetroPCS later) with an MSRP of $114.99, while the ZTE Grand X 3 will soon hit Cricket Wireless for $129.99. Here are the spec lists for both phones:
