After updating the SHIELD tablet K1 to Android 6.0, NVIDIA has set its sights on the SHIELD TV.
NVIDIA announced today that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming to the SHIELD TV. The update will include Adaptable Storage, an Android 6.0 feature that’ll enable the SHIELD TV recognize an SD card or external drive as internal storage, which should let you give your SHIELD TV a solid storage boost. The update will also bring a better startup process and other goodies.
Marshmallow will be included as part of the SHIELD Android TV Software Upgrade 3.0, which NVIDIA says is “coming soon.” NVIDIA also noted today that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will come to SHIELD TV on January 7.
NVIDIA has been pretty good about providing Android OS updates to its SHIELD devices in a timely manner, and it looks like that’ll continue with this SHIELD TV update. It’s good for NVIDIA to keep up with that effort because it shows that they care about keeping their products up to date, and it could convince some consumers to pick an NVIDIA device over the competition during the buying process.
