Remember earlier this year when we got wind of a new iPhone 6 resolution of 1704x960 that Apple was testing? Well a dive into the Xcode 6 SDK beta has revealed that the Cupertino firm’s got another new resolution undergoing testing in its labs.
As noted by 9to5Mac, the Xcode 6 SDK has revealed a Springboard file with the resolution of 736x414. Springboard, for those that don’t know, is the name for iOS’s grid of app icons. Because of the way that the iPhone SDK parses screen resolution, the actual resolution that this file is referencing is 1472x828.
If this new 1472x828 resolution were used on an actual iPhone, it would result in additional pixels (and app icons) on both the screen’s height and width. When Apple moved to the 4-inch iPhone 5 and its 1136x640 resolution, it only added pixels to the screen’s height. It’s also worth noting that this resolution would retain the 16:9 aspect ratio found on the iPhone 5/5s/5c.
For now it seems that only Apple knows exactly what resolution its new iPhone 6 model(s) will feature. The fact that this 1472x828 resolution is present in the new Xcode 6 SDK beta certainly seems to give it some support, though. The good news is that with Apple’s new iPhone event expected to take place on Sept. 9, it won’t be much longer before all is finally revealed.
UPDATE: iPhone modifier Feld & Volk, which has been responsible for previous iPhone 6 leaks, has shared photos of what’s said to be iPhone 6 front and rear panels attached together.
The images show two parts that we’ve seen several times by now: a front panel with curved edges and a rear panel with iPod touch-like volume buttons and redesigned speaker holes. The unit is more curved than the iPhone 5s and its flat sides.
It’s also worth pointing out that the iPhone’s power button has been relocated on this new model. Rather than appearing on the top like in iPhone models past, it looks like the iPhone 6’s power button may rest on the right side of the unit, which would make it more easily accessible.
