Did you think that the verdict of that Apple-Samsung trial from earlier this month would be the last time that we heard about that legal tiff for a while? Well that’s not the case, because Apple has made a couple of moves to keep the battle going.
First up, Apple has asked for a permanent injunction on several Samsung devices that infringe on three of its patents. Apple is asking that nine Samsung devices be barred from sale: the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Stratosphere and Galaxy S III.
In its filing for the ban Apple said that it “will suffer irreparable harm if Samsung continues its use of the infringing features, that monetary damages cannot adequately compensate Apple for this resulting irreparable harm.”
Meanwhile, the Cupertino firm is seeking more damages from its most recent trial. Apple was seeking a total of $2.2 billion in damages, but it ended up winning only around $120 million.
Apple and Samsung have been trading legal blows since early 2011, and so it’s not a surprise to learn that Tim Cook and Co. are keeping the battle going with an attempt at an injunction and retrial. Whether or not either of its requests will be granted remains to be seen, but one thing that’s clear is that while many other mobile companies are settling their legal fights, Apple and Samsung’s fight won’t be ending any time soon.
