Google has said in the past that it plans to offer a version of Glass that works with prescription lenses, but so far we've yet to get a clear look at what that particular version of its eyewear will look like. That's changing tonight thanks to Google employee Brian Matiash, who has posted a couple of images to his Google+ profile that show the prescription-friendly version of Glass.
As you can see in the images above and below, the glasses fit nicely into the frame of Google Glass. The arm of the eyeglasses that fit into the Glass frame looks to be quite a bit shorter than the other arm, suggesting that they may have been made specifically to fit into this prescription Glass unit. This version of Glass looks fairly similar to the non-prescription version of Glass save for that cutout for the eyeglasses arm, complete with a large backside that houses the battery and a heads-up display that goes over the right eye.
There's no mention in Matiash's post about how far along this pair of prescription Google Glass is, so for now it's still unclear if this is what the consumer version of prescription Glass will look like or how getting a pair will work. The unit shown in these photos looks pretty good, though, fitting the eyeglasses nicely without straying too far from the design of the regular Glass hardware.
What do you all think of this prescription Google Glass unit? Would those of you that wear prescription eyeglasses be ok wearing this version of Glass?
UPDATE: Phandroid notes that Explorers are now receiving invitations to swap out their original Google Glass unit for the updated model that was announced in October. Google says that the new model looks and feels the same as the first version, but that it's "a bit faster and more durable." The updated version also supports upcoming prescription frames and shades.
Explorers that bought their Glass unit before Oct. 28 are eligible for the swap, and Google says that those that are invited will have until Feb. 5 to exchange their original model. Those that do decide to swap will have the opportunity to select a new color for the updated version.
