Less than two months after launching its free monthly phone service that offers 500MB of data, 500 text messages and 200 anytime minutes for no charge, FreedomPop is making its offering even more enticing.
FreedomPop announced today that consumers can now bring old Sprint phones onto its service and receive the same free plan that it launched in October. GigaOM notes that the list of currently-supported Sprint phones includes the HTC EVO 4G, HTC EVO 3D, Samsung Epic 4G, Samsung Epic 4G Touch, Samsung Galaxy S III and LG Optimus S. FreedomPop is working to add more devices to that list, and ultimately it hopes to support iPhone hardware as well as any Sprint Android phone.
In addition to its new BYOD solution, FreedomPop is now selling the HTC EVO 4G for $99 without a contract. This is the same EVO 4G that many of us know, sporting a 4.3-inch display, 1GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and 4G WiMAX connectivity. The EVO 4G also includes a 4GB microSD card.
It was pretty tough to find fault with FreedomPop's free service before, but the offer has gotten even better now that consumers can bring their very own Sprint device onto FreedomPop and receive the same 3G/4G service. Sure, the phones that are supported by FreedomPop's BYOD program aren't the freshest around, but that also means that they can likely be found at a pretty cheap used price.
