We've all been rejoicing ever since Motorola's DROID X finally got the Android 2.2 update, but it looks like there are some issues that are dampening the party. Some users, our own Aaron Baker included, are having problems with the text messaging portion of the DROID X ever since upgrading to Froyo. Specifically, incoming and outgoing messages aren't updated properly in the message queue, and there are some reported problems with SMS notifications, as well. Motorola has acknowledged the issues on their support forums and have provided the following response:
Okay. I have news. I talked to our engineering team and it appears that this will require a software upgrade to correct it. They are already on it and seemed confident that they know the why and the how-to-fix. I don’t have any timeline on when an update will be released, but when I know more I will let you know.
Sorry for this trouble and thanks for all the good detective work and for reporting it.
These problems with the DROID X's text messaging are definitely big issues, and hopefully Motorola can push out an update pretty quickly and get the DROID X running smoothly once again. Still, it's nice that you DROID X owners finally have Android 2.2 on your handset, especially considering that Moto waited until the last day of summer to push it out. While we wait for the DROID X's update to come, let's take an informal survey: how many of you out there are experiencing text messaging problems, or any other issues, with your newly-Froyo'ed DROID X?
