Motorola's home field advantage couldn't protect the cell phone giant's title as champion of US sales in Q3, analysts have announced. The South Korean Samsung now controls 22.4% of the market. LG, also a South Korean manufacturer, holds a threatening third-place position, with 20.5%.
Motorola's US market share dropped from 32.7 to 21.1% over the last year, despite a 6.2% growth in the American cell phone industry during rough economic times.
Motorola, thanks to the RAZR series, had been the top manufacturer in the US cell market since 2004. The company has stated that Q4 sales will fall short of projections,
and that they expect lackluster performance for the first half of 2009.
