Qualcomm today introduced the first new processor in its Snapdragon 700 series of chipsets.

The Snapdragon 710 is now official. The 710 is built on 10nm process tech and offers several improvements over the Snapdragon 600 series of processors. With a multi-core AI Engine, Qualcomm touts that the Snapdragon 710 offers 2x performance improvements in AI applications compared to the Snapdragon 660.

Also included with the Snapdragon 710 is 4K HDR playback support, making it the first non-800 series Snapdragon chipset to boast that feature. There's a Snapdragon X15 LTE modem included, too, which offers support for downloads speeds up to 800Mbps and 4G LTE technologies like 4x4 MIMO and License Assisted Access.

Other notable features of the Snapdragon 710 include a Spectra 250 ISP for better low light photography, noise reduction, and Face Unlock with active depth sensing; Bluetooth 5; and improvements to the Adreno 616 Visual Processing Subsystem architecture that'll result in a 20 percent reduction in power consumption when streaming video compared to the Snapdragon 660.

Qualcomm has included Quick Charge 4+ tech with the Snapdragon 710, which offers a 50 percent battery charge within 15 minutes.

The Snapdragon 710 is available starting today, and Qualcomm says that it should begin appearing in consumer devices in Q2 2018.
