Sprint is offering a major promotion aimed at getting consumers to switch.
For a limited time, Sprint will give you a year of free service if you switch from another postpaid carrier. This will include unlimited talk, text, and data, including 1080p video streaming and 10GB of high-speed mobile hotspot usage. Families can switch up to five lines with this deal.
You'll need an eligible, unlocked smartphone to qualify for this promotion. A list of phones that are eligible for this deal can be found at the bottom of this post. If your phone qualifies, you'll need to order a SIM Kit ($2.99 for the SIM card and $10 for shipping), then activate your device on Sprint's network.
One detail about this offer that's worth noting is that if you do take advantage of it, you can't upgrade your device until you've been with Sprint for four months. If you need a new phone before four months, you'll need to buy one at full price or you'll forfeit your free service.
Also worth pointing out is that while your service will be free, you'll still have some fees to pay each month. That includes a $1.99 admin fee, $0.40 regulatory fee, and other taxes. You'll also need to be enrolled in AutoPay and eBill. If you opt out, you'll be charged $5 per month for not using AutoPay or $7.99 per month if you remove both AutoPay and eBill.
This offer will be available for a limited time. After January 31st, 2019, customers that take advantage of this deal will be charged for a regular rate plan, which costs $60 per month for line one, $40 per month for line two, and $30 per month for lines three through five.
There's a lot of fine print with this deal, but if you've got a qualifying smartphone, it could be an offer worth looking into. A full year of free service could save you quite a bit of cash, with Sprint touting that Verizon customers can save $900 in one year. Just try to get an idea of what Sprint's coverage in your area is like first, either by checking a coverage map or talking to people you know that have Sprint.
