Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 6, a flagship follow-up to last year’s Mi 5. Now that the Mi 6 has been on the market for a bit, Xiaomi has revealed a new Mi 5 variant.
The Xiaomi Mi 5X features a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display, up from the original Mi 5’s 5.15-inch 1920x1080 screen. Another notable feature of the Mi 5X is its dual rear camera setup, which features dual 12-megapixel cameras (one wide angle lens, one telephoto lens) like the one found on the Mi 6 and can let you do things like add blurry backgrounds to your photos.
Other features of the Mi 5X include a Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3080mAh battery that you charge using the USB Type-C port. There’s also a fingerprint reader around on the back of the phone. All of those features are crammed into a metal unibody design.
The Mi 5X runs Android below Xiaomi’s new MIUI 9 custom user interface. Xiaomi touts that MIUI 9 offers faster app launch times, system optimizations like a new file system, and a smart assistant that can help you search for things on your device.
Xiaomi will sell the Mi 5X in black, gold, and rose gold color options for 1499 Yuan ($222 USD).
Also revealed today is the new Mi AI Speaker. This Amazon Echo-like device has a six microphone array so that it can hear your voice wherever you are. It can answer questions, set alarms, play music, control smart home appliances, and more. Xiaomi also touts that its Mi AI Speaker will gain more skills in the future.
The Mi AI Speaker is priced at 299 Yuan ($44 USD), but it’s currently sold out.
