Remember yesterday when Google teased that a new Project Fi-compatible phone with a “mid-tier price” would be launching later this year? Well today a new report claims to have more info on which device Google was referring to.
Project Fi’s upcoming “mid-tier price” phone is the Moto X4 from Motorola, according to a report from VentureBeat. The device is expected to launch in Q4 2017, and while there aren’t a ton of spec details available, a leaked Motorola presentation suggests that the phone will have a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display, “3D Glass”, and a feature called “SmartCam”.
The arrival of the Moto X4 on Project Fi would be notable for a few reasons. Not only would it be the addition of a new phone that’s officially supported on Project Fi, but it’d likely be the first non-Nexus and non-Pixel phone to launch on Fi. Plus, its “mid-tier price” means that Fi would once again have a more affordable device available for customers, following the discontinuation of the Nexus 5X.
While the Moto Z line seems to have taken over as Motorola’s flagship series, the impending arrival of a new Moto X phone is still something to look forward to, especially with the news that the X4 could be a new Project Fi handset. What do you want to see from the Moto X4?
