We haven’t heard much about the Android Market ever since it was replaced by Google Play back in 2012, but that’s changing today.

Google says that it’s ending support for the Android Market on devices running Android 2.1 Eclair and lower. Once June 30, 2017 rolls around, users on devices running Android 2.1 and older will no longer be able to access the Android Market.

This change will take effect without any notification for the users on Android 2.1 and earlier because of technical restrictions with the Android Market app.

Google’s decision to end support for the Android Market on devices running Android 2.1 and earlier makes sense. Most app developers have stopped supporting these old Android versions, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen Eclair on Google’s Android distribution reports, which means that it has less than 0.1 percent usage among Android users.
