Now that the LG G6 is just days away from hitting store shelves, we're going to unbox a retail unit and take it for a spin.
The LG G6 is not new news to you guys. We’ve done a few videos on it and have explored a lot of what makes a G6 a G6. Now, we have the full blown, production-ready G6 in a Verizon suite. Let’s go ahead and unbox and see what the G6 experience is like.
First of, the box is really tiny for the LG G6 and pretty simple. It has a nice G6 logo on the front, Verizon badging on the left and that’s about it. Lifting up the top cover reveals the G6, ours in the titanium color. Beneath that are some paperwork and the USB Type-C charging cable and the brick. Now back to the G6.
The big story about the G6 is its new display and design. The display is beautiful, stretching 5.7 inches and comprising of a 2880x1440 resolution giving it an effective 2:1 ratio. And that 5.7-inch display takes up more than 80% of the frontal area, giving it a wild appearance that screams futuristic.
The redesign of the G6 gives it metal and glass as its primary building blocks. The G6 feels super solid in the hand and thanks to an added texture on the rear panel, the G6 has an improved feel in the hand that gives it a whole lot more confidence than other phones like the S7 and S7 edge. So basically, it doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall out of your hand.
The other story of the G6 isn’t quite as flashy but equally as important. It’s the specs underneath the sheets of glass. It does not pack the latest Snapdragon processor. It actually runs the Snapdragon 821 CPU, which in my book, is just fine. It’s powerful, energy-efficient, and most importantly, a very cool running chip. The reasoning behind them picking the 821 instead of the 835 wasn’t really a pick but more of a “that’s-the-only-choice-we’ve-got.” Samsung has been soaking up all the new 835 chips for their S8 and S8 Plus launch and LG wanted to beat Samsung to the market.
Other cool features of the G6 included its IP68 water-resistance rating, its large 3,300 mAh battery, and the return of dual-cameras with a dual-focal length camera system on the back. Also, wireless charging is now on the LG G6 so hurray for that. And if you want a larger rundown and experience of the LG G6, make sure to check out all the videos we’ve had-- our hands on and our week with the LG G6 videos, which are all linked on the video. Though now that we have our full production model of the G6, we can give you our full review which will be out here in a bit but until then, watch for us and our G6 content at our channel.
