Tomorrow’s the day that we expect to officially meet the follow-up to the TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch, but it looks like the company accidentally outed the Android Wear 2.0 device early.
TAG Heuer’s new smartwatch is called the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, and just as its name suggests, the device has a modular design. You can wear it as a smartwatch with a 45mm case, or you can swap it out for a mechanical watch case when you feel like going analog. This mechanical case will apparently carry the designation of being “Swiss Made.”
TAG also plans to let you swap the lugs, straps, and buckles on the Connected Modular 45, which means you should be able to make it fit any situation. There will be rubber straps in a variety of colors, calfskin and rubber strap combos, ceramic straps, and titanium bracelets available. Lug options are expected to include titanium, titanium with diamonds, titanium with 18K rose gold, and titanium with a matte black ceramic finish, while buckles will be offered in PVD or titanium finishes.
This Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch will reportedly feature an Intel processor, 4GB of storage, an ambient light sensor, an AMOLED display, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC for Android Pay. The battery is expected to last more than 24 hours, and the case will offer water resistance up to 50 meters.
Finally, it’s said that the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 will carry a price tag of $1,650. There’s no word on when it might launch, though.
We’ve seen a few modular smartphones lately, and now it looks like the idea of modularity will infiltrate the smartwatch world. The idea sounds interesting, letting you have a smartwatch when you want quick access to notifications but also a mechanical watch when you don’t want your wrist constantly buzzing.
