To date, Motorola has released several Moto Mods for its Moto Z phones, like the Hasselblad True Zoom and the Insta-Share Projector. For its next mods, though, Motorola wants your help.
Motorola is teaming up with Indiegogo for its new Transform the Smartphone Challenge. During the challenge, you can share your ideas for a new Moto Mod to apply for a Moto Mods Development Kit and a Moto Z phone until January 31. Motorola will also hold hackathons where you’ll be able to build a Moto Mod prototype with help from professionals.
Once you’ve got your prototype, you’ll launch a campaign for it on Indiegogo between January 3 and March 6, 2017. Indiegogo will help you with your campaign strategy, while Motorola and Verizon will help to promote your campaign to consumers.
Ten finalists will go to Moto’s headquarters in Chicago to pitch their Moto Mods and have a chance to get funding, a distribution agreement, and more. These finalists will also meet with engineers to perfect their prototype as well as Verizon Ventures and Lenovo Capital, all with the chance to have their Moto Mod distributed by Verizon and Moto.
Motorola has launched several more modules for its Moto Z phones than other manufacturers offering modular handsets, including a speaker, projector, camera add-on, and more. More module options won’t hurt, though, and with this contest, Motorola could discover some quality Moto Mods that it may not have come up with on its own.
Do you have any ideas for future Moto Mods?
