Flagship smartphone season will continue through to at least November 3, as Huawei just announced an event for that date.
Huawei today handed out save-the-dates for an event on November 3 in Munich, Germany. There aren’t many details about what Huawei will show at the event, but the company does tease that it’ll unveil “a new flagship device.”
We’ll have to wait until November 3 to find out exactly what Huawei has up its sleeve, but the new flagship device could be a successor to last year’s Huawei Mate 8. The Mate 8 was announced in November of last year, so the timing for a refresh lines up.
Adding support to the theory that Huawei is prepping a successor to the Mate 8 is a new leak that claims to reveal the Huawei Mate 9. Images leaked by a user of Chinese social network Weibo show a Huawei-branded smartphone with a design similar to the Mate 8, but with a Leica-branded dual rear camera setup.
Rumors have suggested that the Mate 9 will be available with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage options. Pricing for these phones will reportedly start at ¥3199 ($480 USD) for the 4GB/64GB model and go up to ¥3899 ($585 USD) for the 4GB/128GB model and ¥4699 ($705 USD) for the top-ed 6GB/256GB version.
Other rumored specs for the Mate 9 include Huawei’s unannounced Kirin 960 processor and EMUI 5.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Huawei has been all about the dual rear cameras lately, putting those setups on its flagship Huawei P9 as well as the Honor 8. As such, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the feature appear on the Mate 9, too.
