iOS beta testers aren’t the only ones getting new software to try out today, as Google has announced a new Android N Developer Preview release.
Android N Developer Preview 5 is now available, and Google says that it’ll be the final preview release before the public rollout later this summer. Because this is the final developer preview, the update includes all of the final N APIs so that devs can get their apps ready for the official Nougat release. Also included are the latest system behaviors, UI tweaks, bug fixes, and optimizations.
There are a couple of different ways to get Android N Developer Preview 5. If you’re in the Android Beta Program, you’ll receive the over the air update right away with no action on your part. If you’d rather not wait for the OTA, you can manually flash the latest system image to your phone or tablet. Just keep in mind that if you do flash, you’ll be wiping all of the data on your device, too.
Like iOS 10 is for Apple, Nougat is a big update for Google and Android. It’s got a split-view mode for apps, refreshed notifications, Doze mode improvements, and more. It’ll begin rolling out to Nexus devices later this summer, followed by updates for flagship devices from the likes of LG, Samsung, and HTC.
