Xiaomi’s Android phones regularly get attention for offering solid specs for affordable prices, like the Mi 5 that debuted this year with a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, and a price of 1,999 yuan ($307 USD). The next Xiaomi phone could get quite a bit of attention, too, but for something other than its price.
Xiaomi has started teasing the Mi Max, posting a photo of a device with a white front and its earpiece and front camera peeking out of a front pocket of a pair of jeans. Xiaomi hasn’t shared any details of this device, but they do say that it doesn’t have a Mi logo on its face and that it’s a new product line, which means that its screen isn’t 4.7, 5, 5.15, 5.5, or 7.9 inches in size. Finally, Xiaomi says that the Mi Max “could be put into the pocket of jeans without any problem.
Of course, while Xiaomi may be tight-lipped when it comes to the Mi Max, the rumor mill isn’t. A render that allegedly shows the Mi Max has leaked, showing a phone that’s very reminiscent of the Mi 5, just without a Mi logo on its face. It’s rumored that the Mi Max features a 6.4-inch screen, which could be why Xiaomi is saying that the Mi Max will fit into jeans without any problem. The Mi Max is also rumored to include a 2560x1440 display, Snapdragon 820 processor, and May launch.
Many recent smartphone releases range in screen size from 5 to 6 inches, but we rarely see phones go beyond the 6-inch screen size. Xiaomi may be ready to give us another, though, by launching a big smartphone that could double as a small tablet for most folks. And while some might think that a 6.4-inch screen is way too large for a smartphone, others may find that such a phone would be a great way to consolidate their load by carrying one big smartphone instead of a smartphone and tablet.
Would you use a 6.4-inch smartphone as your daily driver?
