It’s been two and a half years since Instagram began letting users post video, but only now is the service adding what some might consider an important part of video support.
Instagram confirmed today that it’s adding view counts to its videos. The feature will roll out “over the next few weeks,” and when it arrives for you, you’ll see it directly beneath the Heart, Comment, and Send buttons where you’d normally see a likes count. To view a videos likes, you just tap the view counter.
Instagram also said today that it’s got other video improvements coming. It didn’t reveal exactly what is in the pipeline, though, only teasing that “adding view counts is the first of many ways you’ll see video on Instagram get better this year.”
We haven’t really seen any big new features added to Instagram’s video functionality since its launch, so it’ll be interesting to see what the company has cooked up. For now, though, at least we’re getting a view count so that we know exactly how many times that cute dog video or funny clip of ours has been watched.
