I've compiled a list of about 10 iOS apps from the month of January 2016. Some of these apps are brand new to the App Store others have just received updates improving their overall functionality. I hope you find at least one app that interests you. If you have any suggestions for myself and others, please leave your suggestions in a comment down below. With that said, let's get started.
Super Phantom Cat
Super Phantom Cat – Be a Jumpin Bro is a fantastic name. The name says it all honestly. You play as a jumping cat dodging enemies, smashing bricks and reaching new goals. It reminds me a lot of Super Mario Bros. If you like Super Mario, then I think you'll absolutely love Super Phantom Cat.
Inquire
Inquire by Tamper is “the easiest way to discover and learn about the world around you.” The app uses your location to discover facts and information hidden in your surroundings. You can explore articles catered to you but the articles themselves can also adapt to various conditions like time, location and current events. You can discover nearby attractions, local headquarters and even celebrities or famous people born in your area; which I thought was kind of interesting. It's certainly an interesting app that caught my attention.
NPR One
NPR One is an app for one of the best news sites, in my opinion, NPR or National Public Radio. The app supports Apple CarPlay and the Apple Watch which is a neat perk but it basically allows you to listen to a wide range of radio stations from NPR. Pop culture news, local news, interviews, you name it and you can really learn a lot from NPR in this app. I would say it's a must-have app if you're a news junkie like myself.
MSQRD
MSQRD by Masquerade is certainly a fun photo-editing. It's sort of like Snapchat in that it can show emotions with Live Face effects. It'll overlay borderline creepy celebrity masks as you can see here. It's not for everyone but for those who like updating social media sites and/or sending random stuff to your friends, it's a must-have.
Grumz
Grumz is a fun game with super cool animations. You play as this 3D polygon and your goal is to dodge as many incoming objects as possible without exploding as you move along a straight path using your finger to pause the polygon. It's hard to make this game sound attractive but take my word for it. As you can see here, it can be fun.
Mild
Mild is one of the most basic weather apps on the market. You tap the map to check the weather. It's literally that simple. The app is extremely fresh to the store and it's missing some crucial settings like Fahrenheit option. But the simplicity and beauty of the app has won me over and forced me to learn my Celsius conversion equation.
Sloth
Sloth is an app designed to sharpen your focus and overall contra-procrastination. Instead of working on a task till it's done, you commit to work for a set amount of time. The concept is called timeboxing. The app is very simple, allowing you to set a time for a specific task. When the time is up, it'll alert you with a notification. For people without an attention deficit problem, you probably won't like or need this app. But I would argue that any millenial should seriously look into this app or an app that focuses on timeboxing in general. With all the distractions nowadays, it can certainly be hard to focus.
Painting With
Painting With is an app that allows you to paint with other people around the world. You can use the camera to create custom brushes, you can create a name to find other people to paint with. The app is actually created by the band Animal Collective, which produce pretty good music in my opinion. I can't say that it's a must-have app but the idea to create a composition with someone around the world is really special. Even if the composition may look like garbage. You never know when and if you'll be painting with a Picasso.
Guides by Lonely Planet
Guides by Lonely Planet is another one of my favorite destination apps. I always love to find cool and new dining spots, attractions, activities in general. Guides by Lonely Planet delivers that sort of information based off your location and they deliver it in a super modern layout that I've really fallen in love with. If you like the looks of this app, you should check this app out.
Save the Line
Save the Line is a really clever game centered around a line that you have to save. You can drag the top of the line over between fast moving objects while raising to beat the clock. They've updated it recently to include a bunch of levels. It's not an easy game but it's a fun game that'll pass the time quickly.
