This is the OnePlus X, probably the phone you’ve been waiting for from the company that promised to disturb the mobile market. It’s a beautiful creation from OnePlus and has the hardware to make other flagships wet their bed in their sleep. And the best part about it, it’s only $250.
$250 buys you a lot when it comes to the OnePlus X. you don’t receive it in some ordinary cardboard box. You receive it in a box which I think is a little bit nicer than the OnePlus 2’s box. Inside, you get the OnePlus X, a box containing the SIM ejector tool, this soft silicone case, and you also get the charger and micro USB to USB cable.
And here is the brand new OnePlus X. this is one beautiful looking phone. It has Gorilla Glass on both the front and the back and this beautiful metal construction surrounding the sides. You can see little bits and pieces like the alert slider on the OnePlus X that is barred from its OnePlus 2 brother. Also, the capacitive buttons are basically taken right out of the OnePlus 2. Though the OnePlus X seems to be a strange and interesting mix of the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 in terms of hardware.
Inside, it’s packed with a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked in at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. On the outside, it has the 13MP camera of the OnePlus 2 and an 8MP front-facing camera of the OnePlus 2. But what is completely brand new for the OnePlus X is the display. It spans 5 inches in total diagonal size but for the first time ever, it’s OLED; which means the panel just pops so saturation and color. And it’s definitely one of the best panels I’ve seen of any OnePlus device. The colors are spot on, whites are extremely white, and the blacks are just the deepest blacks around. Its resolution is Full HD which when packed into 5 inches gives you 441ppi. Not too shabby at all. Battery-wise, it houses a 2525mAh internal battery but given its smaller size and lower resolution than say a Quad HD panel, the battery should suffice an entire day’s worth of usage.
And last but not least, is the software. The OnePlus X is running Android 5.1 Lollipop with OxygenOS 2. It’s basically the same software you saw running on the OnePlus 2 so you can have features like Shelf and you do still have a lot of customization within the software. Although we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes open for a Marshmallow update in the near future. Its performance right out of the box is really good. It reminds me a lot of how the OnePlus One used to perform and blow away the competition and that’s something I doubt this phone will have any trouble doing. Even with phones three times as expensive.
Ultimately though, I feel this is the big phone for OnePlus this year. While the OnePlus 2 is a fantastic phone, it missed a lot of its opportunity when launching with the ever plagued invite system. And there’s just not a whole lot of people who can get their hands on one. With this though, the first month is invite-only but after that, the floodgates will be opened and you can buy this phone outright. That’s really good progress. That will give us more than enough time to get acquainted with OnePlus’s latest flagship killer.
