There’s no shortage of podcast apps available on Android, but soon Google will be adding one more to the list.
Google Play Music will soon gain support for podcasts. Once it goes live, you’ll be able to search for podcasts in Google Play Music, browse for new podcasts, and have Google help you find new podcasts based on what you’re doing, how you’re feeling, and what you’re interested in. The latter feature will use tech similar to how Google creates contextual music playlists.
Google is now letting podcasters upload their podcasts to Play Music so that when the service goes live to the public, they’ll have podcasts to listen to immediately. The podcasters and networks that are currently uploading episodes to Google Play Music include:
As for when it’ll open up to the public, Google says that it’ll have more info to share “in the coming months.”
Google actually had an Android podcast app called Listen at one time, but that app was killed off years ago. And while there are definitely some nice podcast apps currently available on Android, some folks may not know to seek out a podcast app or may not want to pay for a nice app. Podcast integration with Google Play Music should provide a good, free way for Android users to consume podcasts that’s built into the OS.
