ASUS today held a big event in India, and the company took the wraps off of quite a few pieces of new hardware.
The ASUS ZenFone Max, ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Selfie, and ZenFone 2 Deluxe were all shown off onstage today in India. There’s a lot of new hardware to dissect here, so let’s break it all down.
First up is the ZenFone Max, shown above. The “Max” part of the phone’s name is referring to its battery, which is a beefy 5000mAh size. In fact, the battery is so large that you can even use it as a power bank to charge another device if you’d like. The rest of the ZenFone Max’s spec list is a bit more normal, offering a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 13-megapixel rear shooter with an f/2.0 aperture and laser auto focus.
Speaking of laser auto focus, another device unveiled by ASUS today is the ZenFone 2 Laser. Like the Max, the Laser has a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and laser auto focus. It’s going to be available in three screen sizes — 5-inch, 5.5-inch, and 6-inch — with screen resolutions that’ll go up to 1920x1080. The ZenFone 2 Laser will also offer a Snapdragon 410 and 2GB of RAM or Snapdragon 615 and 3GB of RAM, depending on which model you select.
The ZenFone Selfie is a device that we actually first saw back in June. It’s like a ZenFone 2 Laser with a beefier 13-megapixel front-facing camera, hence the name “ZenFone Selfie.” ASUS is all about naming a device after its main feature, apparently. The ZenFone Selfie also offers a Snapdragon 615 processor and 3GB of RAM.
Finally, the ZenFone 2 Deluxe is unique in that it’s got a crystal-patterned backside. It’s basically a top-end ZenFone 2 besides that, though, offering a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display.
Pricing for the ZenFone Max isn’t yet available, but we do know pricing for several of the other models. The 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 Laser will cost 9,999 Indian Rupees ($157 USD), the 6-inch Laser will be 17,999 Rupees ($282 USD), the ZenFone Selfie will be 15,999 Rupees ($251 USD), and the ZenFone 2 Deluxe will cost 22,999 Rupees ($361 USD).
ASUS has a lot of new phones for India, and they all serve a certain market. For example, the ZenFone Max is for folks that want a phone that’ll last all day, the ZenFone 2 Deluxe is for people that want a premium Android phone that looks the part, and the ZenFone Selfie is for anyone that values a front-facing camera’s performance above all else. It remains to be seen what other countries will see these various ZenFones, but folks in India sure have a lot of options available to them if they want to make an ASUS device their next daily driver.
