Smartphones leaking out before their official announcement is a pretty common occurrence in the mobile world, and today exactly that has happened with a pair of unannounced Sony smartphones.
The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 have been shown off in several clear photos ahead of their official reveal, which is expected to happen next week. The Xperia C5 Ultra is the looker of the two, sporting super-thin bezels on the left and right sides of its display. That screen is expected to measure in at 6 inches in size and have a resolution of 1920x1080, while its side bezels will be just 0.8mm thick.
Other rumored specs for the Xperia C5 Ultra include a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, 13-megapixel cameras on both the front and back of the phone, and a front-facing camera flash. The battery powering the C5 Ultra is expected to have a capacity of 2930mAh.
Meanwhile, the Xperia M5 looks a bit like a shrunken Xperia Z3+/Z4. The Xperia M5 spec list is expected to include a 5-inch 1920x1080 display, 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 2600mAh battery. The rear camera on the M5 will be a 21.5-megapixel shooter with a Sony Exmor RS sensor, while the front shooter will have a 13-megapixel resolution. All of those goodies are wrapped in a body that's IP65/68 rated for dust and water resistance.
Both of these Sony phones look like some respectable handsets, but the Xperia C5 Ultra will probably garner the most attention of the two because of its super-thin bezels. Considering how big the phone is going to be with a 6-inch display, having thin side bezels should help to make it a bit easier to hold than it would be if it had thicker side bezels. And with huge phones like the C5 Ultra, it’s nice to have all the grippability help that you can get.
