When Google launched its Android M Developer Preview, it laid out a timeline showing when it planned to roll out updates to the beta software. The first release came out at the end of May, then we got a second release, and the third “near final” release was slated to come at the end of July. Unfortunately, that third release is going to take more time.
Googler Wojtek Kaliciński recently took to Google+ to say that the Android M Developer Preview 3 release isn’t going to make the “end of July” release that was projected for it. Kaliciński explains that Google needs “a little more time” to get it out to developers because it wants the update to be a near final release for them to test. There’s no word on when Google now expects to release the next Android M Developer Preview update.
There’s a lot of excitement around Android M, and while the software is intended for developers to test their apps on, there are likely a lot of regular folks running the dev preview just to get an early peek at Google’s next big Android update. As a result, a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this “near final” Android M release. Now it looks like they’ll have to wait a bit longer than anticipated, which is kind of a bummer, but this kind of thing happens with beta software sometimes. And hey, at least Google is taking extra time to make sure the update works well than just pushing it out when it’s not ready just to meet its late July timeframe.
