Google teased earlier this year that a new version of Google Glass would launch sometime in 2015, and now those plans have been reaffirmed.
Luxottica CEO Massimo Vian said at a company meeting today that his firm is working on a new version of Google Glass that will be out soon, claims the Wall Street Journal. Luxottica is a major Italian eyewear company that owns popular brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley. Unfortunately, Vian didn’t offer up any details about what Google Glass v2 might be like.
The original Google Glass never really seemed to gain much traction, and while its $1500 price tag likely had a little to do with that, the device’s looks didn’t really help. After all, if you’re going to be wearing something on your face all day, you probably want it to look good and at least somewhat inconspicuous. Google is likely going to beef up Glass v2’s specs, but I’m sure that it’s also working to make it look nicer, something that teaming up with Luxottica could achieve.
