Back in early January, BlackBerry teased a major BBM update that will bring support for Android Wear, custom PINs and more. Fast-forward nearly two months and that update is finally going to arrive.
BlackBerry says that tomorrow, March 2, BBM updates for BlackBerry 10 and Android will begin rolling out. The update will roll out to iOS users “soon.” Included will be two different types of subscriptions: No Ads and Custom PINs.
The No Ads sub will cost $0.99 USD per month and will remove all ads from your feed and eliminate sponsored invites. A Custom PIN subscription will cost $1.99 USD per month and will let you create a custom BBM PIN that’s 6-8 characters long and is made up of letters and numbers.
If you decide to sign up for either BBM subscription, you’ll also receive another little gift in the form of a special badge on your avatar. An example of this premium badge is shown below.
Along with subscriptions, the upcoming BBM update will bring support for photos in BBM Groups and some goodies for Android and iOS folk. Android Wear support will add the ability to receive BBM alerts on your smartwatch and to read and respond to them as well. Meanwhile, iOS users will be able to use lock private BBM conversations with TouchID or a 4-digit passcode, set how long they’d like BBM to stay unlocked before requiring a passcode, and use landscape mode in BBM chats.
