It's coming to Europe and Korea first, but knowing that the technology is out there, somewhere, gets me all excited. Noah just sent a press release from Barcelona, where Texas Instruments and Samsung announced two mobile phones with built-in projectors: the I7410 for Europe, and the W7900 for Korea.
TI's DLP graphics chip technology can be found in movie theaters and high-end home entertainment systems around the world, as the press release states. But the tech has been shrunk by 90% with the Pico chipset - the second generation of which supports a WVGA screen with a contrast ratio exceeding 1000:1.
The projectors can produce sharp images exceeding 50 inches. That means watching videos at 854 X 450 pixels on your wall while using the built-in speakers, sharing your 5 MP photos with everyone at a family gathering, or presenting a slide show that you finished on the bus to work. They also pointed out that both phones make an excellent flashlight. Cool.
