Remember back to this Spring when the rumor mill made it sound like every cell phone maker not named Apple was scurrying to ready their own "iPhone Killer" in time to compete with Apple & AT&T's late June launch date? LG's Prada phone was at the top of nearly every would be Apple Assasin list, in large part because it was the first non-iPhone to feature an iPhone-like full frontal touchscreen.
Well looky here, it seems as though AT&T may just be clearing some shelf space next to iPhone for iPhone Killer #1 itself. Photos of an AT&T-branded Prada handset have surfaced along with a new model number, code name, and a few details.
The LG CU920 - aka "vu2" - is the purported AT&T version of the KE850 Prada phone, but with updated (for the better, supposedly) firmware, a US-ready 3G radio, and some corporate branding. One rumor says AT&T's trying to get this baby out to stores in time for the rapidly approaching holiday shopping season, while another says it's an early 2008 release. The latter makes more sense to me if only because I can't imagine Steve Jobs okaying a 3G-compatible iPhone look-alike on iPhone's network during the not 3G compatible-iPhone's first holiday shopping season.
And, oh yeah, there is a "vu" to go with "vu2." vu would be the LG Shine for AT&T. It's a long time coming, but it's still a sexy, sexy phone, that Shine.
