Two interesting new handsets uncovered on the Web recently really show the amazing progress being made in the world of "packing more and more stuff into smaller and smaller housings."

RIM seems to be readying a successor to the popular BlackBerry Pearl.  A successor that's somehow 8mm thinner and 30% lighter than the original.  Seriously?  Is that even possible?  Add EV-DO connectivity and an upgraded camera to the mix, and that's a pretty sweet upgrade to an already popular handset (even if I didn't like the keyboard, myself).

And BoyGenius got his hands on some pics of what looks to be the forthcoming Motorola SCPL.  While posing as a simple candybar phone, this handset actually packs a pretty impressive feature set into a ultra-thin (thinner than RAZR 2) body:   QVGA display, 2MP camera with QVGA video capture, quad-band GSM with EDGE, and Moto's advanced JUIX operating system.  Very cool - I'm especially interested to get some time with Moto's new operating systems and user interfaces, as software has long been a shortcoming of Motorola's handsets.
