As most BlackBerry users are aware, a patent litigation has been ongoing between Research in Motion (RIM) and NTP, Inc over the technology used in your BlackBerry.  Since the technology in question is for sending and receiving e-mails from your BlackBerry, RIM has been at work creating a ?workaround contingency? for their customers. 

According to RIM, they have ?developed and tested software workaround designs? for all BlackBerry devices that are currently being used in the United States.  RIM still believes that they have a strong legal position against the claims being made by NTP, but do not want their users to suffer any down time should the courts insist they cease the use.  "RIM's workaround provides a contingency for our customers and partners and a counterbalance to NTP's threats.  This will hopefully lead to more reasonable negotiations since NTP risks losing all future royalties if the workaround is implemented" states Chairman and Co-CEO Jim Balsillie. 

RIM has invested an ample amount of time and effort into their new workaround technology, and wants their users to know that if deployed, the changes will remain invisible to them.
