Remember the Motorola Xoom family? The original Xoom tablet debuted on Verizon way back in early 2011 as the first device to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and it was followed up with the Droid Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1, which were known as the Xoom 2 overseas. That was the last that we ever heard of the Xooms, but Motorola may have had another model in the works.
Several images of a mysterious Motorola Android tablet have been posted to Chinese social network Sina Weibo. The device features Verizon 4G LTE branding, a camera and kevlar on its backside, and an image of the tablet powered on shows that it appears to be running Android 4.0 or later.
That’s about all that’s known about this device right now, but considering that it’s a tablet that we’ve never seen before and that it’s got Verizon branding, it’s suggested that this could be the Xoom 3. Unfortunately, it’s also said that this slate has been “abandoned.”
While the original Motorola Xoom was a big deal because it was the first Honeycomb device, the Xyboards never really seemed to gain much traction with consumers. Exactly why the Xoom 3 never made it to store shelves is something that we’ll likely never know for sure, but the Xyboard’s inability to get big sales numbers may have played a part.
More images of this rumored Xoom 3 can be found right here. Did you ever own a Motorola Xoom or Xyboard?
