Well, it’s finally here, folks. After months of teasers and a slow trickle of information, the OnePlus One has been officially introduced to the world. As a quick refresher, here are the specs that make up this super-hyped smartphone:
So how can you get one? Just like the build-up to its reveal, the OnePlus One’s actual launch will be unique. The first 100 devices will be available starting April 25 through the OnePlus Phone Smash, which is just what it sounds like. Interested consumers can go here to apply to smash their current handset in exchange for a OnePlus One. One hundred applicants will be given the opportunity to buy a OnePlus One for $1 and invite their friends to buy the device as well.
As for regular availability, OnePlus says that the One will initially launch in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the U.K. and the U.S. The 16GB Silk White model will be priced at $299/€269, while the 64GB Sandstone Black variant will come in at $349/€299.
Considering all of the hype, leaks and teasers that we’ve endured over the past few months, it’s nice to finally see the OnePlus One fully revealed. We’ll have to wait to make any final judgments about the device until we can actually get our hands on a unit, but the One certainly appears to have the makings of a respectable Android flagship. Not only does it have a large 1080p display, 8.9mm frame and Snapdragon 801 processor, but the Nexus-like pricing means that the device will be accessible for a lot of consumers.
On the software side of things, the CyanogenMod 11S software looks like a nice combination of stock Android elements with more customized (and customizable) features. Included with the software are goodies like SMS encryption, Privacy Guard for controlling how apps use data and advanced Camera and Gallery apps. Perhaps best of all is that Cyanogen Inc. head Steve Kondik promises that his team will “continue to expand” on its work in order to “provide a genuinely enjoyable and powerful operating system for the user.”
