Ever heard of Verizon Smart Rewards? Unless you happen to live in Arkansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, northern Idaho, northern Mississippi or western Tennessee, probably not. That could very well change soon, though, as a new rumor claims that Verizon is planning to take its loyalty program nationwide in the near future.

Verizon Smart Rewards gives out points to customers for doing things like paying their bill, managing their account online and upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone. These points can then be redeemed for things like gift cards and deals. The program is currently being tested in the aforementioned 8 states, but a source speaking to FierceWireless claims that Verizon is planning to launch Smart Rewards nationwide as soon as April 1. Verizon has confirmed that it plans to expand its program in 2014 but has not offered up a firm launch date.

While there are some methods of earning Verizon Smart Rewards points that you likely won't do very often, like recycle a phone or add a new line of service to an existing plan, there are also some pretty easy ways to earn points too. Those include getting points for every dollar you spend on your bill, keeping a connected tablet on a plan and using Auto Pay for your bill. Things like that seem like it'd be pretty easy to rack up points and work your way toward getting free stuff. Sure, it may take a while to get certain gifts, but you're still earning free stuff for doing things that you'd be doing anyway.
