Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, Galaxy Gear 2 Neo smartwatches revealed in new image leak [UPDATED]

The Galaxy S5 is expected to be the star of Samsung's Unpacked show next week, but the flagship handset won't be making the trip to Barcelona alone. The rumor mill has suggested that multiple new Galaxy Gear smartwatch models will also be shown at the event, less than a year after the original Gear debuted. We don't have to wait until Monday to get a peek at Samsung's new wearable, though, because an image of two new Galaxy Gear models has made its way online.

Up above are renders of what's said to be both the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 and the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. The Galaxy Gear 2 doesn't look terribly different from the original model, sporting a colored band, silver face and square display. Two things that are different with the Gear 2 rest above and below that display: Up above it is a mysterious black bar, while a round, silver button that could be some sort of home button sits below the display.

The second smartwatch shown in today's leak is referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. Details on this device are just as light as with the Gear 2, but we can see that the Gear 2 Neo sports a colored back, slightly smaller silver face and a square screen. Above the Gear 2 Neo's display is a small, black circle, while the bottom of the watch's face features a black pill-shaped button.

Samsung is known for offering a multitude of Galaxy smartphones, each with different specs and price points, and so it's certainly possible that the company could extend that strategy to its smartwatch lineup. This is the first that we've heard anything about the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, but if it's anything like the recently-launched Galaxy Note 3 Neo, then it'll be lower-end than the straight-up Galaxy Gear 2. We'll have to wait for Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 to find out what makes the Gear 2 Neo tick, but today's leaked image seems to suggest that it won't be quite as high-end as it Gear 2 sibling.
