Huawei's Ascend Mate made waves at CES 2013 for being one of the largest Android phablets we'd seen to date thanks to its 6.1-inch display. We've seen bigger phones come to market since then, but phones with screens that measure 6 inches and larger are still a rare sight. That's why fans of those giganto-phones are likely going to be happy with this latest Huawei leak, which claims to offer a glimpse at the Ascend Mate's successor.
Images posted to Chinese microblogging site Weibo claim to show the unannounced Huawei Ascend Mate 2 in white. While none of the shots give us a straight-on look at the front or back of the phone, we do get to see the bottom portion of its face, its micro-USB port, its side and a little bit of its rear. Compared to the first Ascend Mate, the new model looks to have a slightly smaller bezel and corners that are more round. The placement of the Ascend Mate 2's side-mounted power and volume buttons also appear to have flipped from the original Mate.
According to the rumor mill, the Ascend Mate 2 will feature the same 6.1-inch 720p display as its predecessor as well as a quad-core Huawei Kirin 910 processor, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. The Mate 2 could be a respectable little performer if those specs hold true. Now we just have to wait for Huawei to announce the thing so that we can find out if those specs are the real deal and fill in the rest of the Mate 2's feature set.
