Apple announced earlier this week that opening weekend sales of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c had hit 9 million units, a new record for launch weekend iPhone sales. As a result, online sales of most iPhone 5s models aren't expected to ship until sometime in October or later, and many consumers are having a difficult time finding stock in stores as well.
In response to the strong demand for the iPhone 5s, Apple enabled Personal Pickup for the device on Monday to help shoppers locate iPhone 5s inventory at Apple Stores around them, but the company mysteriously pulled the feature just a day later. There's some good news today for those folks that are still without a shiny new iPhone 5s to call their own, though, as two sources speaking to 9to5Mac claim that Apple could be planning to bring back Personal Pickup for the device as soon as Monday, Sept. 30.
It can be tough to know exactly when Apple Stores will get inventory of certain iPhone 5s models, and some folks don't have the time to travel down to their local store or call several times a day. That's where Apple's Personal Pickup tool comes in handy. It's not clear exactly why Apple decided to introduce iPhone 5s Personal Pickup once and then pull it right back, but all that matters now is that it may only be a matter of days before the tool returns. For the sakes of shoppers still on the hunt for an iPhone 5s and the Apple Store employees that are bombarded with inventory questions all day, here's to hoping that this rumor becomes reality.
