Been eagerly awaiting the restart of the of BBM for Android and iOS rollout? If so, you'd better get comfortable, because BlackBerry says that the relaunch likely isn't coming this week.
Andrew Bocking, head of BBM, revealed today that BlackBerry has been working since this past weekend to address the issues caused by a leaked version of BBM for Android. The company is currently working to completely block that unreleased app from being used and to reinforce the systems to prevent a problem like this from happening again. Unfortunately, Bocking says that these tasks will take some time and that as a result, he doesn't expect BBM for Android and iOS to be released this week.
The BBM for Android and iOS apps were originally slated to launch over the weekend, but BlackBerry was forced to delay the global rollout due to issues caused by users running a leaked build of BBM for Android. Now it sounds like the folks at BlackBerry are still having trouble containing the issues that've sprouted up due to this leaked app, which is a bummer both for the company and the folks that've been waiting since mid-May to give the official BBM apps a go. While it doesn't sound like BBM for Android and iOS are a definite no-go for this week, I'm not sure that I'd hold my breath while waiting for them to arrive. Here's to hoping that BlackBerry can get things sorted out quickly so that we can get to swapping PINs and lighting up notification LEDs.
