The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are officially slated to go on sale on Apple's website at 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Sept. 20, and the company's retail stores (as well as those of its carrier partners) will kick off sales at 8:00 a.m. local time on that same day. As is usually the case with a high-profile smartphone launch, though, some folks have already managed to get hold of both devices. The good news for us is that they've also shared photos of the devices being unboxed in order to whet our appetites ahead of Friday's launch.
New reports from both HDBlog.it and Chinese forum DGtle contain photos that show off the retail packaging of the iPhone 5s as well as its contents. There's not anything terribly surprising about the boxes or what's inside them, but it's nice to get an early peek at what many folks will be lining up for on Friday. Several images that offer a close-up look at the new gold iPhone 5s have also been posted.
Speaking of new iPhone colors, photos of the packaging of each iPhone 5c color have surfaced today as well. The boxes are reminiscent of the packaging used with the iPod touch, with the unit itself staring out at the buyer through a clear plastic front. The inside of the boxes are pretty much just simple plastic tubs with the usual paperwork, charger and USB cable included. You can check out the inside of the iPhone 5c's box yourself in the unboxing photos and video down below.
The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are Apple's latest contributions to the smartphone market. The iPhone 5s is the Cupertino firm's new flagship model, sporting an updated camera with dual-LED flash, A7 processor and Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5c is the more mass market offering, pairing internals that are similar to the iPhone 5 with a new polycarbonate shell that's available in five colors.
This is the first time that Apple has introduced two new iPhone models at once, and it'll be interesting to see how well each model performs at retail. While the iPhone 5s is clearly the higher-end unit, the iPhone 5c could draw quite a few customers in with its lower cost and colorful paint jobs.
