Did your ears perk up and your wallet spring from its hiding place in your wallet when HTC introduced the One Developer Edition last month? If so, you'll be glad to know that HTC has finally revealed exactly when the SIM and bootloader unlocked device will be made available for all of your tinkering needs. The company has announced on its official @HTCdev Twitter account that pre-orders for the One Developer Edition will begin at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET today, April 5, with an actual launch planned for April 19. HTC also confirmed that the One Developer Edition will only be available in silver.
The HTC One Developer Edition is priced at $649 for a unit with 64GB of built-in storage and support for AT&T HSPA+/LTE as well as T-Mobile's refarmed 1900MHz HSPA+ and LTE service. While both AT&T and T-Mobile are already scheduled to officially offer the HTC One themselves, this Developer Edition differs from the model that the carriers will offer in that it will come with its SIM slot and bootloader unlocked. The former feature means that it'll readily accept SIM cards from any GSM carrier, while the latter means that owners will easily be able to tinker with the device and do things like load it up with custom ROMs. Thankfully, folks that enjoy getting their hands dirty with the One Developer Edition won't have to wait weeks or months after the phone's retail launch to do so, which is a nice change from other "Developer Edition" devices we've seen in the past.
