Good news for U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III owners on this fine Wednesday afternoon, as their flavor of Samsung's newest Galaxy S family member is due to begin receiving a pretty hefty update. An image sent to Android Police shows that there are a number of tweaks packed in with the new software, which is version R530UVXLI4, including a fix for a bug that'd cause the background and font color of emails to change and the removal of the Verizon power down tone. Interestingly, the changelog also lists "Support for Google Wallet," meaning that U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III owners will soon be able to use Google's mobile payment service like users of Sprint Android phones and unlocked Nexus devices have been doing for some time.
A separate photo posted by Android Police mentions that owners of the U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III will be able to start using Google Wallet on October 3, which just so happens to be today. U.S. Cellular's website says that Galaxy S III customers can install the R530UVXLI4 update over the air by going into Settings > About Device > Software Update, or by plugging the phone into a computer and using Samsung's Simple Upgrade tool.
It's pretty exciting to see another U.S. carrier-branded device gaining Google Wallet support, and the good news for U.S. Cellular customers is that the carrier says that it hopes "to enable Google Wallet on other NFC (Near Field Communiation)-capable devices soon."
