Good news for fans of the phone-tablet docking device that is the ASUS Padfone, as ASUS has begun sending out invitations to the introduction of the Padfone 2. According to an invitation received by Notebook Italia, the debut is scheduled to go down on October 16 in events taking place in both Milan, Italy, and Taipei, Taiwan. The invitation shows a corner of an ASUS-branded smartphone along with a few app icons, but outside of that, there's not much information available about the next Padfone.
The original Padfone made its official debut way back in May 2011, but those of us in the U.S. only recently got a chance to order an unlocked version of the device. Specs-wise, the first device packed a 4.3-inch qHD (960x540), 1.5GHz dual-core processor as well as 8-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, while the tablet docking station included a 10.1-inch 1280x800 display, 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter and 6,600mAh battery. While the Padfone 2 is largely still a mystery, the rumor mill has suggested that it could feature a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor. Good thing we've got less than a month to wait before all is revealed.
