Heads up, Sprint customers. It's been revealed that Sprint has decided to cease offering its 5GB/$29.99 per month mobile hotspot add-on, replacing it with a pair of new offerings for smartphone and tablet customers to choose from. Sprint subscribers can choose a $19.99 add-on that includes 2GB of 3G/4G data per month or a $49.99 option that offers 6GB of combined 3G/4G data each month. Customers that use more data than is included in their monthly bucket will need to pony up an additional $0.05 per megabyte, and Sprint notes that it'll notify customers when they use 75, 90 and 100 percent of their allotment. The carrier also says that any customers that were signed up for the aforementioned 5GB add-on when the changes took place on May 18th will be able to keep using that plan until they cancel service.

While Sprint's new 2GB/$20 add-on may be a welcome addition to folks interested in doing some light hotspot use, I'm sure that there are some heavy users out there that aren't thrilled about the elimination of the 5GB/$30 plan and the introduction of a new one that includes an additional gigabyte for $20 more. Good thing that those folks that are already signed up for the 5GB option can hold on to it until they decide to drop it.
