We've heard a number of reports allege that the iPad 3 will feature 4G LTE connectivity when Apple trots it out on stage on Wednesday, and today one more such claim has surfaced. A source speaking to iMore — apparently the same one that told the site that Apple would be holding the iPad 3 event on March 7th — has now said that the new iPad will indeed pack in LTE support. Additionally, the site has heard that a quad-core processor will also make the cut into Apple's new tablet, though no other details about it were given.
Keeping up with the new iPad 3 stuff, the folks at iLounge have been told by a "repeatedly reliable source" that Apple is prepping a new type of case for the device. The case is said to feature a foldable Smart Cover to protect the iPad's face (just like what Apple currently offers for the iPad 2) as well as a part to protect the tablet's backside. The source also claims that Apple is testing glass and ceramic rears for the iPhone 5, that a larger display for the next iPhone is still up in the air and that the 30-pin dock connector may be given the axe in the near future.
Obviously nothing about the iPad 3 is official until someone from Apple decrees it to be so, but as I mentioned before, LTE connectivity is one of the more oft-rumored features of the device, leading more and more folks to believe that the feature will indeed be included in the new device. Whether or not the iPad 3 will also feature a quad-core processor has been a bit more of a debated topic, with some claiming that Apple will indeed jump to a quad-core CPU and others suggesting that it'll go with a beefier dual-core chip instead. The good news is that it won't be long before all is revealed, as Apple's iPad event is scheduled to kick off this Wednesday at 10 a.m. PST. UPDATE: In other "New iPad Rumor" news, both CNET and VentureBeat have been told that the device that Apple is planning to unveil on Wednesday will be known as "iPad HD," not "iPad 3," in order to highlight the high-res 2048x1536 display that the tablet is expected to include.
